Italian Style, Made to Measure
Twice each year, Santoni invites connoisseurs of exclusive footwear to attend a presentation of the art of Italian shoemaking at one of its exclusive distribution sites in Germany, where a specialist from the house of Santoni handcrafts each shoe from untreated leather and in accord with its new owner’s special requests. The exclusiveness lies in the finish, i.e. individual coloring and polishing.
This time, the organizer of the “Italian Tailoring Festival” was the Braun haberdashery at Mönckebergstrasse 17 in Hamburg. Together with Caruso, the Italian men’s clothing business which is renowned for its elegantly custom-tailored suits, Santoni presented the fine art of handcrafted made-to-measure Italian footwear. We invited journalists to attend the presentation, where they were firsthand witnesses of the meticulous handcraftsmanship that distinguishes Santoni’s merchandise.
The Santoni Business
Innovation, creativity, research and experience are the key concepts which guide the development and design of products from the house of Santoni. Founded in 1975 as a manufacturer of top-quality men’s shoes, Santoni has attained international renown as a luxury accessories brand. All of its shoes are crafted by hand and with tremendous love for details in Corridonia, Italy, where the brand operates its own factory.
To cultivate and preserve know-how and expertise in the arts of sewing and dying, in 2005 Santoni founded an in-house school, in which the firm’s founder Andrea Santoni is personally involved. Specialized artisans on the school’s faculty teach all of the techniques required to construct and dye the products: for example, the art of anticatura, a special coloring and polishing technique which creates unique color sequences and shadings, as well as glossy or matte surfaces.
